Parent Coordinators are parents of children with developmental disabilities who are employed by the Regional Center to provide information and support to families.
Parent Coordinators are available to provide support through phone calls or home visits to discuss a variety of issues. They can attend meetings at the regional center when families feel they may need the support of another parent. Parent Coordinators can assist families in learning more about their child's specific diagnosis by helping to search for information on the internet, linking the family to disability specific support groups, and providing books or videos. Parent Coordinators often meet with families at one of the Regional Center's Family Resource Rooms located at many of our outreach offices. The Family Resource rooms are stocked with a variety of books, videos and information for families on loan at no cost.
Parent Coordinators can also assist families in learning how to work through "the system" and provide them with the tools they need to learn to become effective advocates for their child and family.
